I ran across a K-20 truck today with what appeared to be a full floating 14-bolt in the rear. He said it hadn't been swapped in, it was just like that. I've never heard of this before, anyone know anything?

I'm not sure about the year, i think it looked to be from the 70's, not sure. It also looked almost like it had a D60 front too but i'm not entirely sure, sometimes I get confused between the D60 and D44. It did have the 52" rear springs though so it wasn't a K-30 i don't think.

the best way to tell at a quick glance if it is a dana 60 it will only have 3 u-bolts 2 on the driver side and the passenger side will have 1 u-bolt and 2 studs /forums/images/icons/smile.gif dana 44's and 10bolts have 4 u-bolts /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

A LOT of 3/4 ton trucks came with 14 bolt ff axles. None came with Dana 60 fronts.

You can easily be fooled if your just looking at the big hub. A friend of mine had a 3/4 ton sub. with a factory 14 bff and what i always assued was a D60 but after looking close it was a D44 with the old external hubs wich are about as big as a D60

If the truck is the 70's years, between '73 to '80, then the 3/4 ton rear will be the 14FF. GM did not offer any other axle for these trucks. Even the '77 to '91 K30's used the same axle.

D60's will have a kingpin knuckles which are identifiable by the 4 bolts holding the caps to the knuckles on the tops and bottoms of each side.
3 u-bolts is another way to check.
