Hey. I live just north of Atlanta and looking for some more K5'ers to wheel with. Here are my nagging little problems I am trying to cure, if you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
    1. There is a popping in my drivers side front when I turn or get on the gas hard. I think all my ball joints and stuff are in good shape. What can cause this?
    2. Bad windows....stick and click on the way down. What can I do to smooth them out?
    3. Tailgate switch for the rear window quit working, how do I fix it?
    4. Motor runs fine....except for a studder when I take off from an idle, how do I fix it?
Thanks for any help you can give me.....BTW, this site kicks some major a$$

Your timing might be off as far as the studder is concerned.

GSB, there are a couple of good clubs in the Atlanta. There are two that I know have Blazers that are on this board. The first is the Georgia Bounty Runners, (me and Grim), the other is the Renagades, (Keith and Depdog). If you want to see some of what we do click on the link to my site.
1.) If you still have auto hubs they could be going bad.
    2.) Grease the window regulator.
3.) It could be the interlock that keeps the window from working when the tailgate is open; or the switch is bad/corroded. Does it work from the dash or the tailgate, or is it dead from both?
4.) Could be a vaccuum leak or a bad fuel pump. You didn't give us much to work with.
BTW, I'm in Dallas - between Marietta & Hiram. If you want to get together drop me an e-mail.

    GSB,

I'm in Marietta with an '89. It will be a while before its ready for off-road. I just started taking it apart and it looks like it's going to be a long process before it's drivable again.

I've noticed lately that there are several members in the Atlanta area with K5's. I'd like to meet sometime and talk trucks. If you're interested, send me an e-mail.

Being a 85 there are several things that could cause your "studder" when you take off. The first thing is check for vacume leaks. Any air that makes it around the carb means air that is not accounted for in mixture so the engine will lean out, spark knock and then it will catch up. Also a biggie that somehow gets over looked is a dirty fuel filter.
Problem 3 is the famous Quadra Jet BOG. Usualy caused by dirty carb linkages for the secondary door or incorrectly tensioned spring. Also caused by incorrectly adjusted Choke. EGR sticking can also cause issues.
Now the Mid 80's problem is you should have the electric mix control quad. You can identify it by a plug on the top front corner of the carb. It will have 2 wires on the plug. One goes to the same oil pressure switch as the choke and the other goes to a temp sensor on the water neck. It could be the sensor is bad but usualy the solonoid is the culprit. Rebuild Kits are $14 at the Zone plust the cost of the Solonoid. Not sure how much the solonoid costs but if your going to just swap for a rebuilt carb you sure don't want that one. Get a carb for a 79. It will have all the same vacume ports for Evap and EGR and air if you truck has it. Only thing it doesn't have is the stupid electric mix control. It is about $80 cheaper also. You will have to look at it and make sure it has the correct ports because both Zone and Pep Girls will try to hand you a carb for a 75 that doesn't have ports to support the other emmisions crud. It will pass our Smog Nazi laws because most places have no ideal what there loooking at. If it passes the sniffer and looks like it has cats you pass. I do mean looks like it has them. My 79 passed the sniffer with no cats at all but a recent tune up and wires. My 75 that never had cats put out less emmisions that my 87 4cyl car with cats and FI did [IMG] The car was a POS Ford that we did take out and shoot last year.

I would really be interested in meeting some of you guys. I am new to the K5 family since this is my first one. I love the truck! It is a 85 K5 Silverado. It has a 305 4BL, TH350 tranny. I believe that it has 3.73 gears but I am not sure. It does have auto locking hubs. I am going to take my door panels off this weekend and see if I can remedy the window problem. I also have trouble getting the doors to close so I will greasing that up too. The rear window switch works from inside the truck but the tailgate key switch doesn't. I took the truck in when I got it to have the carb looked at and adjusted. The choke was bad and I had it replaced. They said it had a vacuum leak and was supposed to fix that. It runs pretty good except for the studder at take off. It isn't really all the bad but enough to make me have to give it a little more gas to take off. Let me know if we can get some Atlanta boys together.

If you're intrested come to one of our club meetings, you can get the time and place from the link on my site. If you're waiting for an invitation-you're invited. If you are intrested in an only K5 event come to Tellico with us for the 2ND anual CK5 Tellico event. If you don't want to drive I'm sure that some of us will have open seats. If you just want to get together and shoot the "s" summer is coming and there will be plenty of that going on.
