recently my exhaust has been smelling very funny kinda like
I'm burning carb cleaner( real strong). It has been idleing fine but everyonce and a while it will drop idle to about 250 to 350 rpm if not lower and then it sounds like it has a huge cam and has a slight miss to the idle and it will do this until the engine cools. It seams to start when I hit bumps (floats sticking?)
It happened just a bit ago so I poped the hood and checked some things out there where no vaccum leaks, spark advance was working, dist was tight (and firing quite well OUCH) the only thing I did notice was that the fuel filter was hot to the touch it is a steel one that is kinda laying against the
upper rad hose and alt braket. will that affect any thing?
It has a junk holley 600 and stock hei. any one have any ideas? TIA

Well I would have to assume the fuel filter was hot from leaning on the hot radiatior hose (heat transfer). As far as the stumbling, check your EGR valve if so equipped, it can get carbon deposits in it which will throw off idle. If you don't have an EGR valve (or if you rule it out as a problem), I would replace the power valves on the carb (you did say it was a HOLLEY right????). Hope this helps.

If you didn't build it yourself, how can you call it yours.......?

    Some more suggestions:
    -Run premium
-don't do anymore additive 'til we finger this out
-reroute fuel line like wayne said and use a benderr for the steel line
-turn engine over with fuel line off the carb pointing into a can - check to make sure you have good flow and pressure.
(2 people job, please be CAREFUL and have an extinguisher handy)
-does your oil look good? no gas smell or level changes?

    I'm outa ideas for tonight.
