Galveston is home to about 1/4 of US refinning capacity. Anyone want to place a bet on the price of gas next week. I'm going to set the over/under at $3.25/gas of regular for a national average. Anyone want to place a bet??

I'll bet it goes higher, I don't remember what the national average was after Katrina, but here in central illinois, we hit 3.19 locally for a high, I am betting we hit 3.50 at least this time :doah:  :doah:

Really makes me wish I had something better than the 98 pickup with a 350 to drive to work (30 miles one way).

They just mentioned 5.00 gal on the news. I'm sure they'll gouge for all it's worth.

Fuel had just dropped to 2.85 gal for the cheapo grade, if you can call that a drop. More like a smokin hole in your jeans.

No kiddin' .... I guess I can't complain too much.. both my K5 & 97 DD are still each on 3/4 of a tank from my PRE-KATRINA fill up. I guess it helps only working 10 days a month.

Maybe I should top them off ..

Theres a station selling for 2.36 a gal. real close to my house. I think I'll be paying them a little visit tonight.

Isn't it crazy that it sounds like a good price. That's usually part of the ploy.. take it up so high, that when it comes down to something that's still too high, we feel like it's a good price.

Yeah and a barrel of crued was going for $64 today. Right before Katrina it was going for $80+. Yet prices are still outragous and higher before Katrina hit. WTF, figure that one out.

A sore ass & back have a tendency to make the unacceptable acceptable. According to what I read today the oil companies made an excess profit of 88 million last month alone. That is over and above what the baseline profit should have been.

On Jay Leno's show last night,he hit the nail right on the head...

He said "Another hurricane is bearing down on the gulf coast!--this one is a Category FIVE!---that means the oil companies can jack the price of gas up to FIVE BUCKS a gallon!.. --not funny ,but true Jay..

A source colse to me, and a guy who knows, said the price per gallon will be at least 3.45 on Monday in the DFW metroplex. It could vary slightly if the damage is worse than they expect.
I keep thinking about that Fox FX channel movie called oil storm. So damn similar its scary. Only diff is that houston was hurt by a ship wreck instead of another hurricane.
I guess the movie maker thought it would be too unbelievable to have two hurricanes hit basically the same area in such a short time.
BTW.... We are expecting 40 mph winds and monster rain storms in Dallas this weekend because of the hurricane. Should make for some fun wheelin.
