I have a 72 k5 and my gas tank sprung a leak (might be a cracked weld) so I need to replace it. I was shopping the internet and have found both steel and plastic tanks both claim to be the best. Which is really better?

I ran a polyethelane (plastic) for about two years. It was a direct replacement and worked very well. I did have an issue with it right before I removed it and that was when I filled it to the top gas would leak out of the top sending unit due to the oring not sealing the sending unit. I knew I had to pull the tank to fix it so I got a new 37gallon tank from North West Metal Products. It is steel and I love the extra capactiy for raod trips.
The one thing about running Poly is you will never have to worry about rust!! But you still only have 21galons....
    Good Luck
