Hi guys, I have been away a while. Okay, I bought a gas tank from a 1987 Blazer and I want to put it in my 72 Blazer. It had nothing but the shell of the tank, will my gas tank inards (float, etc). fit directly into this tank?

Also I want to lean and seal this tank before I put it in. What gas tank cleaners and sealers would you all suggest?

    Thanks guys,

    Rod

I did this in the late 80s with my 67 Corvette tank, using the Eastwood system, a cleaner and a sealer. I thought the tank was very clean when I sloshed the sealer around, but.. Within 6 months (no more than a couple of hundred miles) the car started running bad - the carb was full of rust!
Moral - whatever you use, be sure you get the thing clean before you apply the sealer. You are right to solicit recommendations. Good luck

Well I don't know about the tank swap, but I am getting ready to clean and line the tank on my 72. I got the tank liner from ChevyDuty.com It was around $25. The directions recommend "metal prep" or "solvent 100" to clean the tank with before applying the sealer. I am going to do the tank tomorrow I will let you know how it turns out.

It can be done and someone around hear has done it...Just can't remember who.
You have to turn the tank around (because the fill tube on 73-91 is on the right side) and remove the rear x-member.

way back on 12/13/01, arq had posted some pictures of this swap. the link to the pictures doesn't work anymore. if i remember correctly he has a 2 or 3 inch body lift which helped him with clearance issues regarding the tank.
    good luck.
