I have an '87 k5 with an auto and my guage cluster did not come with a tach, or a trip meter (like the '88), has anyone been able to replace the '88 gauge cluster into an '87??? Or something similar??? I dont want extra gauges everywhere, I want it to look stock, but with a trip and tach???? Please help.

It shouldn't be too hard to replace the speedo unit, which includes the odo, and trip, you can probably buy one at a junkyard, or even a dealer for a little money. You'll probably want to set the mileage somehow though...you can buy the tach from LMC truck, but its no tlisted under the years you want. I think its from the 70's

This came up a few days ago, and someone found an entire stock cluster on ebay with a tach, and a relocated fuel guage.
I also read about a guy once (might've been here) that pulled the tach and fuel guage's from a Camaro, and put them in his truck for a perfect stock look and fit. I then tried to do the same thing with the cluster I had in my basement from my old '88 Camaro, but had no success, they were bezelled differently. I don't what year the donor camaro was for this guys project, but the pictures looked reallly nice. I currently have a triple mini guage cluster and a mini tach mounted under my radio, but would much rather have the stock in-dash look.

Yeah, I am working on the same thing. I have the entire cluster from a 79 Camaro that I rolled - oops. I wanna say it was Derf00 but don't know for sure.

Question - where is the tach pickup on a 91? Not on the cap...

Yes it was at this site where you read about it. I book marked the site and plan to do the same thing some day. After all the must do's are done and I can progress to the want too's.

    Here is the link.

The tach pickup is on the coil I think. It a white wire, with a connector on the end.

Thanks for the link! I love the way that setup looks in the dash, beats the crap out of my cluster at my knee.

Tach lead on my '88 is wire coming out of the coil with a connector on the end like 90k5 said, but if you don't have a stock tach, it's not plugged into anything. I think the color on mine is actually pink or brown, though. It might say on the tune-up/emission routing table on the radiator hold down.
