    Hey all,
New to the CK5 membership, but i've been enjoying the abundance of information on this website for about a year and a half now. Anyway, my question is I eventually am going to run 38's on my machine but i only have 33's right now. I have heard 4.56 is a pretty good ratio but is that really gonna hurt as far as gas mileage around town? Every once in awhile it has to hit the highway too. I'm all ears..../forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

I run 4:56's and 38's on my rig. It gets about 10-12mpg. I drove it 70mph from Sacramento,CA to Seattle,WA.! I've been thinking of going to 5:13's for MORE power off road!

Sounds good. I don't have a trailer or anything so it will still have to drive on highway to get from trail to trail. Thanks for the post

I ran 4.56's in my 81 blazer stock 350/th350/208 with 39.5 tsl and that was IMO that wasn't enough.
I had to run 4L all the time offroad and in the deep stuff it would dog not horrible but it me me wish I had more gear.
Daily driving was not to bad but, I was on the coast in S.C so it was flat everywhere. As far as mpg I don't realy remember but, I think gas was $.88 a gal on back back then. With your 33's/4.56 you are going to be burning some fuel around 3,000 @ 65mph acording to the chart from 4wheel parts cat. I have.
I run 33's now with 4.10's and I think thats about perfect to me.

5.13's! That is barelly low enough for an automatic and 38's. Most guys prefer 5.13's with 35's.

I know, You could do 80+ if you wanted too with 5.13's and 35's...with 38's, plenty of top end.

With 5.13's and 38's you would be spinning 2,948 RPM's at 65mph in direct drive which is fine. If you have OD then you will be down at about 2,100-2,200 RPM's which would be perfect.
