    I have a 1990 k5 with stock corporate axles. The sticker inside the glove box is like chinese to me. It is just a bunch of letters and numbers. Not like my old truck that had everything spelled out. I can not find any tags on the axle and I do not have the original tires (to do the rotate and mark and count the revolutions thing) If any one knows how I can decifer these letters to get my ratio it would be much appreciated.......

    You could just pull the cover and count the number of teeth and use the Ring gear teeth/pinion gear teeth=gear ratio formula

    Print the chinese codes in this post. I will break them all for you, or you can pull the cover and count. But you'll spend some dough and get a little greasy......I have hollanders for all 60s through 90s cars and trucks.....js

    Kapkod,

    Here are the codes:
    GU2 = 2.73
    GU4 = 3.08
    GU6 = 3.42
    GT4 = 3.73
    GT5 or GT8 = 4.10
    G80 = Gov-lock

    These are the codes that correspond to your glove box codes.

    Also if you want to know anything about your K5 you can give the last 8 digits of your Vin# to your Chevy dealer and they can tell you all the specs on you K5.

    Dude I think the resource for those codes is CK5![IMG] I think the only list that gets posted more often is the one for number of post versus title under name.[IMG]
    Actually I think I have the glove box codes memorized now!![IMG]

    I just checked out my 88 Blazer and I have 3.73's! I had no idea, thats awsome. Just to be sure, the numbers not in the VIN, its in the glove compartment with all the codes correct?

    Keep the shiny side up, and the greasy side down.

    Walt,

    With reference to what I said about the vin. All Chevrolet vehicles '90 and new can have the the last several digits of vin #'s entered into GM dealers computers and it will tell you about gear ratio's, etc. This is according to my local Chevrolet dealer.

    Just as a side note, you can still get a rough idea of the gear ratio by turning the tires and counting the number of revolutions the driveshaft makes...no matter what size tires you have on it. One revolution of a tire is still one revolution, no matter if its a stock 28" tire or a 44" Swamper.

    It should have G80 and another code with it that would be the ratio. If you have an auto its probably 3.42 or 3.73, and with a nmanual its probably 2.73 or 3.08

    The GM Option code book I have says the following:

    GQ1- AXLE, STD RATIO

    I'm not sure what this means.............looks like you might have to the old tire spin method to find out for sure!!

    Want any other codes deciphered, SK-15?

    Mine must just be different all together. In my glove box, it has the codes and what they are next to them and I am running the gov-loc with an auto and the crappy 3.08. I wish the person that i bought my truck from would have had enough sense to at least go to 3.73 cause 3.08 sucks with my 32"s.
