glass pack mufflers

    a mechanic where i work told me i could put a cherry bomb inplace of my catalytic converter, i was just wondering if that was true.......thanks for the help guys....i have a 305 too

    You could put a cherry bomb in its place, but it would be easier to just put in a piece of straight pipe.

    You had better check your local laws in PA before taking someone's "word". Of course you CAN do anything you want, but make sure it's legal. I just replaced my stock cat with a high-flow converter and it performs great and makes my muffler perform to its highest level. If you want more power and sound replace the stock cat. just don't leave it off. You might be asking for trouble.

    if you don't have looney emmisions laws like NY (the freaken dyno for all vehicles from 1980 and up running to 55mph and they have you on camera in all the state certified shops) then just hollow the darn thing out and bolt it back up empty, it won't cost you a dime and it still looks stock, you will pick up more HP.

    I am lucky my 82 doesn't have to have a converter...83 is when they started that crap...

    If you have a computer, taking the cat off will make your engine idle very fast. No back-pressure screws up your
    ecm. I know this is happening to my 88 right now.

    I have an 88 tbi 350 with no cat and a 2 chamber flowmaster and mine idles just fine...sounds like you tbi gasket might be leaking..i know it caused mine to have a high idle....just my 2 cents

    My 89 had a straight pipe and did fine. I would replace the cat with a high flow type and cat-back exhaust.
