I'm painting the interior of my '83 and I can't find out how to remove the glove box latch. It's not the locking type and it has a very small hole in the front and it looks like some kind of slide grooves on the back (like the back half turns somehow).
Can anyone tell me how to get this thing apart. Thanks.

12 lb. sledge and a pry bar... What happens if you stick a paper clip in that hole, it might press a release of some kind...

WOW!! 12 lb sledge!!?? I'm trying to stay away from bodywork :-) I stuck a paper clip in the hole and wiggled it, but I couldn't get it to release anything.

It has something to do with the paper clip in the hole, then with the clip in there, try to open it normally. I can never remember exactly how to do it, I just play with it until it falls apart.

Ya, put a smiley after a "duh" if you are joking and nobody gets mad...like this [IMG] cause then we know you're joking (if you are and I sure hope so or I will be [IMG]). See, you can't get mad at a smiley. "Duh's" are not good ways to make freinds on here. Enought with the "duh's" already.

I for one would like to know how to make those bastards tighter. Mine rattles like crazy!

Open the box and trip the latch like the box was closed, just inside the box on right is a poke hole. While holding the latch, poke your paper clip in the hole and find a wafer that is spring loaded and push it in while prying on the lock face on the glove door with a small flat blade. The lock will pop out enough so you'll see another wafer to push on while pulling on the lock and it will come out. Just check the angle of the back so it'll go back in the correct position. Hold the latch like it's locked to slide it back in, while pushing on the wafers, then unlock box and close it. Piece of cake...

Hey MUD SPEC, did ya figure it out ? It has nothing to do with the hole in the front of the box (or tape if you want to do it right)....
