Anyone know what I should shoot for for axial play on the shaft? I've ordered a distributor gear shim kit since my HEI is loose. From what I've gleaned I should shoot for something between .01" - .02"

Don't remember myself but i'm sure moeseburb does...and he can give you the PN# for the gm shims...i allways replace the shim with new when i have a dist out...plus its a good time to replace the pick up coil also...and as a general rule of thumb you'll find the shaft has worn into the dist housing at the bottom....gm sells the shaft kit which come with a new rotor for about $50 bones...but i don't know how much a housing goes for...but a that point its cheaper to replace it with an accell unit or an msd.
