When did GM start putting rev limiters on their trucks?

I dont know about rev limiters but GM has been using speed limiters in their computer controlled cars and trucks for around ten years now. They do it for liability reasons. They do not want the vehicle to exceed the speed that the OEM tires were rated for. For example my Bonniville came with tires rated for 120 mph. So the engine would start cutting out at about 115 mph. An aftermarket chip elimnated the speed cut out and now it will peg the spedo.

They don't have one, at least not the TBI motors. The cam and ignition module just don't put out at high RPM. I glanced down at my tach while playing in the sand one time and noticed that I was all out of numbers. I now have a MSD 6AL with a 5000 rpm pill.
