I have never been to Las Vegas and a friend and I are planning to go in early October. I have been looking online for package deals that include airfare and hotel and I can't seem to be able to make a decision on where to stay /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

We are leaning towards the Aladdin, but I'm also thinking New York New York, Excalibur, MGM Grand or Harrahs. Any other recommendations?

    Important hotel requirements:

    clean
    on the Strip
    shopping
    middle of the road pricing

They had a suite, and there was 5 of them. So maybe they got a good package deal, and split the cost so it wasn't too insane? I dunno, never been to Vegas, was going by her saying how nice it was....

We stayed in the Aladdin and it was Really COOL (lots of shopping in the lower areaS)! We've also stayed in the Excaliber and it pretty cool (checkout the dinner show there if you haven't). I would stay midway on the strip, Harrar's area so you can venture out each way different days. We stayed at the Aladdin in Feb and walked most the way down the strip but had to jump a trolley back, /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif.
I thought it would be cool to rent a car one day checkout the strip at night (its bumper to bumper) and then go checkout the downtown area with the laser light show on the strip but we didn't make it that far. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Maybe on the next trip. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Left with $325 and made it back with $100! At one point I was up 700 or 800 buck! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I spent all of that too, shows, drinks, slots, it was a good time (the folks paid for the room for my 25th birthday) /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I would love to be able to stay at the Bellagio, but it's WAY out of my price range. Since I am buying this trip, I'm trying to keep the price between $500-$600 for air/hotel for both of us. I wanna stay somewhere decent, but it's not like I plan on spending a whole lot of time in the room anyhow. You hear about all this wonderful stuff in Vegas and I don't want to go there for my first time and be disappointed.

ALL of the rides are on our to-do list /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Ex-Cal is a nice hotel and pretty reasonable.
Last month when I was there had nice room for $85/nite.
Its in a good location for walking to most places on the strip.

They are all competitive, and give fairly good rate's, do some calling, all have 800 number's.

Or, east of the strip, about 8 mile's outta town there's a place called Al's motel, but it is'nt too nice, or too "flashy". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Or I have "freind's in Vegas, if You can put up with them, they can put You up. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Stay away from the Boulder Station... I was there last week and it was ugly...

I'd like to stay at the Luxor or Caesar's Palace next time I go...

Don't waste all your time sleeping or going out in the desert looking at rocks... My friend's mom's now-ex-boyfriend just wanted to look at rocks... and my friend and his mom just wanted to sleep... and I wanted to see the dern strip... But we only saw 3 hotels, and went on the strip like three times... /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

I've been to almost every one of the hotels. I'd rate them in this order

    Bellagio
    Caesar's Palace
Venecian, Paris, Aladdin (kinda tied, venecian is very pretty)
    Monte Carlo
(excalibur is for kids, kinda--big arcade, lots of games)

Just got back from Vegas. Stayed at the Mirage and it was nice. Bellagio and Venetian are the best but VERY VERY pricey. If I had it to do over again, I'd stay at Mandalay Bay. Good restaurants, VERY nice hotel, wave pool, House of Blues in the Hotel. Only downside is that it's at the end of the strip, and not in the middle. There's a train or something that'll take you more towards the center.

BTW, I have a friend who knows the engineers who did the big coaster at NYNY. They recommended that it not be built as it was so unsafe. It was built over their objections.

Seeing "O" at the Bellagio is a must. I'd stay at a 3rd rate hotel in order to be able to afford to see that show if I had to choose. It is truly remarkable. I think it's Cirque's best show. The technology alone is worth paying to see. Often you can get really good seats an hour or 2 before showtime as the hotels release their seats that weren't requested by high rollers...
