I had my truck in today to get the rear bearings replaced and it turns out that the real problem is that my rear gears are splined a little. I get some vibrating when driving on the highway and sometimes just in town, but my mechanic said that they aren't that bad. I'm not sure I want to pay the labor to get those gears replaced, I was thinking more along the lines of finding a 12 bolt and just doing an axle swap which should be cheaper. How much should I expect to pay for a 12 bolt with 3.08's for a 77 chevy?

I got my 12B w/ 4.10's for $250. I'm going to change to 4.56's though! I wouldn't pay more the a couple hundred for a 3.08 axle... there are far too many out there and they are a crappy ratio. Mayb you should step up to a 3.42 or 3.73... definetly would be worth the extra money for the frt axle to match. You are probably better of find some in the paper or a local 4x4 place/military eqip. Sometimes salvage yards want a little too much for theirs.

Makes me wonder what all the SCORE drivers running 10 and 12 bolts are thinking[IMG]

If the shoe fits, get another one just like it
