I was going get aset of 12.50/38x15 Swamper TSL's to replace the Fun Country's that I'm currently running,But Goodyear is having a 30% off sale. How do the MT/R's stack up against the Swampers? The truck is a very limited daily driver(6 moles aday). The MT/R's tread looks kind of mild.Anyone running the 12.50/37x15's?Opinions Please!!!

I think that the MT/R is a better all around tire, but the TSL's are hard to beat for hard core mud. What's the 30% off price that Goodyear has on the 37x12.50x15's? Discount Tire has 'em for $195 each, including mounting, lifetime balancing, and road hazard warranty. If Goodyear is running a really good special on 'em, then I might not wait before nabbing a set! /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Hmm, that's not a bad deal! I'll have to hassle Discount and see what they can come up with. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

For an all around tire, I would go with the Goodyears. But for total offroad, no contest, the Swampers. No comparison.

I've used BFG muds, MT/R's, and now have 36x12.50r16 TSL Radials and love them better than anything else for snow, mud, and rocks. BFG's are a close second. MT/R's don't clean as well and their side stability isn't very good. You'll get on a steep hill and your front end won't want to climb it'll want to fall to one side or the other.

A friend of mine had the 35" Goodyears and I was impressed with them doing some muddy hill climbs and wet rocks.

both are gr8 tires IMO. My next set of light-duty/on-road tires are prolly gonne be 37" MT/Rs... that said, my new off-road-only tires are gonna be some 39.5" TSLs (siped!). /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I really dont think you could go wrong with either.

Sweet, I just bought two used 315 75 r16 MTRs from Discount Tire for 49bucks including mounting/balancing. Now I just got to find two more. They have some mild "cupping" but they have at least half tread still left.

HEY guys I was wrong ....THIS SALE IS THUSDAY AND FRIDAY ONLY!!!.I just looked at one on a 8" rim and it looked real good, nice side lugs(3 plie sidewalls) and a fairly wide footprint.I got quoted a price of $732 for mounting/balancing and road hazard. These are some nice tires, but I still can not decide on these or the Swampers.Mike

I want to second CHEVY4WD's comment. I'd like to see the Goodyear in a 35x12.5x16.5 also. My son-in-law has a set that are awesome! Anyone know of a similar tire/tread design made by any other tire manufacturer that is available in a 16.5" rim size? Thanks, Gary

Dave, did you have the old Goodyear MTs or the MTRs because I have run BFG MT and the Goodyear MTRs, and MTRs all the way. I have gotten stuck in mud so many times in the BFGs, but not in the MTRs. THe MTRs clean out alot better because there tread is farther apart, and they are alot tougher than the BFGs. Petersons did an article on the mud tire test and the MTRs beat the crap out of the BFG MTs. I run the MTRs on rocks mostly though and hold up great. Good street manners too.
