My 6 year old computer crapped out on me on Thursday, so today I went out and bought a new setup. The new one came with Norton Antivirus installed, but I still have an account/subscription to Macafee from the old computer. When I went to download and install the Macafee on the new comp., it told me I had to uninstall the Norton software. So, before I went any further, I figured I'd ask you guys what you would do. Stick with the Norton, or drop it and install Macafee? I only have a couple months subscription left on the Macafee, but I thought I read somewhere that their virus protection is better. Anyway.....

Haven't have a virus or spyware/adware problem on my computer for over 5 years. And I don't use any software.

    Except for linux.

make sure you have whatever registration info MCafee needs before removing Norton. Personal I think there is very little real difference between Norton and MCafee. I use Norton and Black ICE behind a Cisco firewall. My wife has her certs and is a Firewall Admin for a major credit card processor...she is parnoid.

very true ... but the point is you're not totally safe just cause you use linux. wouldn't want the noobies to get the wrong impression.

:doah:I feel sorry for your server. I'm not trying to be a dick here, but mcaffee is SERIOUSLY awful. Gotta love having the most recalled updates of any AV provider, and constantly scoring last on detection testes.

cisco hardware firewalls give me that warm fuzzy feeling. :D

And I didn't know BlackIce still existed. I remember it being a totally weak firewall WAY back in the day (circa 1998) but who knows how far they may have come in 8 years.

BTW,,,the McAfee is used on the server and pc's that are networked behind the Cisco firewall and router,,,  just as a second layer of protection,,,and I run spybot monthly on all user's P/C's as a routine tuneup. Also have all of my p/c's running dual hard drives with Norton's ghost as a third level of protection.

I still think McAfee does a fine job,,,at least for me...

Thanks for the replies, fellas. I'll stick with macafee for now, and look into those others that were posted.
