    Got a Q about 14\'s

Hey ya'll.. I just picked up my 14 bolt today. I popped open the cover and it has 4.10's and everything checks out ok. Now my question is does anyone have a pic of an open diff. and a locked diff... any locker. The reason I ask is the guts are real differen't (from what I recall) than in my 10 bolt. There is the R&P but behind the ring there is a unit that actualy looks like it has another ring inside of the unit. I've never seen inside a 14 so this could be common I gues.. I just wasn't sure.

If it looks just like the one in the picture above and you can see the spider gears in the center, then its probably open. I'm a little confused when you say there's another ring to the left of the bolts. You should take a picture.

Notice the 4 pins in the carrier halves. This is the open differential. Its the better candidate for a Detroit Locker, like the installation shown here.

The other carrier is the 3 pin spider gear. Its the posi carrier housing that holds the Gov-Lock. Its the less desirable of the two carriers.
