they looked fine, no metal in the bottom.. the gears looked all good, so did shafts and such...

The spiders had very minor "silver worn spots" where the gears had been binding, but no cracks, or chuncks missing on any of them...

    Nice welding Rene!

How's the dana 60 look? hehe

I am glad to hear that...but the question remains what the clunking and banging was? /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

Hey renee! hows the rearend coming? don't know what the clanging and popping was but it is gone now! drives like a dream and quiet as a mouse! go figure! had to of been to much stress on the springs and maybe torquing up the driveline to the tranny! but everything looked awesome in there except i didn't know my own strength on the axle bolts and stripped one big time!lol! oh well i will get it fixed one of these days there is still 7 more holding strong!LOL! guess we will never know what that loud bang and popping were!

Difs are coming along nicely. Got the D60 almost completely cleaned and painted, the 14 is next. I have to peel off the perches and shock mounts and then I'm ready to swap it all under the truck/forums/images/icons/cool.gif

The welded gears tend to amplify any slop in the drivetrain...loose mounts, sqeaky springs, loose rivets in cross members, etc etc...thats probably what all the noise was.
