and just as I figured, they`ve gotten worse, and my prescriptions going up a little. They also told me I have a stigmatism. Anyone care to explain? I know my grandfather has maculate degeneration, I hope I don`t end up with that:crazy: :(

Basically, it refers to the shape of your eye lense.

We all have it (shape). It's just that some people have worst shapes than others.

I just got my new prescription last week and yes it went up. I also have an astigmatism. I just chalk it all up to getting older:doah:

Like the color of your hair, it's in your genes. The stigmatism is pre-determined.

    Believe it or not.

when you wear glasses your eyes get used to the pharscription and get weaker, at least form what im told by my optomitrist -sp?

Anyway, my vison is 50/20 and i can see close perfect, better than average in fact but things are blurred at a distance. I dont wear my glasses though. My eyes arent that bad and i dont want them to get anyworse, which they havent in 6-7 years of rarely wearing them.

Yea mine are the same. I have glasses that I wear every couple of months for a day or two when I find them. I then put them down and lose them for another couple of months and go without them. :haha:

The astigmatism in my left eye got "corrected" when I had a 70mph drivers-door-first wreck into the wall on a 1/4 mile oval. My doctor said he's never seen it before, but had read about it happening in eye doctor school =)

I found out I had astigmatism when I was 10 or so. Wore glasses for maybe two years then.

When I got to be 30 or so I found i had just a little trouble being able to clearly read road signs soon enough, so went and got glasses again. It's still a very light prescription, and after 10 minutes without em I get used to not having them on again. I wear them fulltime because reading drawings at work can be a bitch without em on.

My prescription has not changed in 11 years, so I don't buy the thinking that wearing them will cause your eyes to get worse.

you said it Nick.about 4 years ago my wife got me the cheap drugstore reader glasses.i put them on and of course i could read better. so once in awhile i wore them. but i started forgetting i had them on and now it sucks to read without them. i can do it but it's not worth the struggle.my dad is 69 and wears readers, but no one else in the fam wears glasses. so i'm screwed for whereing them.
