Well she hit me as I was stopped at a red light here in town and........

The Avalanche won by a long shot. Plus there were no injuries.:D

I did feel bad for her though, she just wrecked her brand new 2006 Toyota something or another. I forgot which model it was......plus it was Mothers Day.:doah:

She could not open the doors of her car more than 2 inches. I was not even really that mad as all it did was a few scratches to the Avy's plastic bumper. :haha::haha:
Insurance adjuster will be here within the next few days to get the estimate. Hopefully he will just hand me a check as even I can swap out a bumper.

Pics are from my camera phone.

And here is a shot of the dmamge to the Avy. The Chevy trailer hitch thingy is ruined, but that is the worst of it

If you think you are not hurt, tell the lady who hit you insurance that you will sign off for $1000. I had a accident simular to yours one time, in one of my Chevy's about 10 years ago, and I got $800, then went to Pep Boys, and bought (then installed) a new bumber for $95.

I thought about that but I did not do it for a few reasons.
-She was pretty distraught and asking for $1000 would have made her day even worse.
-The amount of damage to her car will require insurance involvment anyway.

Plus I have yet to file a claim, only a loss report with USAA. Only the adjuster can file a claim on my behalf. If the total to repair said damage is small I will just do it out of pocket rather than pay the deductible then suffer with higher insurance rates.

I must admit that I am quite uneducated on this subject though as the last accident I had was in 1995. Not sure if I would even have to cover the deductible??

In the normal world, it was her fault and her insurance would cover it. However, in Arnifornia, who knows.

I did not mean ask the lady that hit you for $1000 on the spot, but tell her insurance comapny you will sign off on the accident for $1000.

Have your frame, and driveshaft checked. When my dad got rearended it looked fine cosmetically until we took it to the shop, for drive shaft vibes.

I will have it looked at just to be sure.
The wife said the bumper needs to be changed as it is her car.

If it was my truck that was rear ended I would settle for $50 and replacment taillights if needed:haha:

This remind me of what happened back when i was in school. EVery morning before school wed hang out at the skate park down the road from the school. well i had my big ass bumper on my k20 still... i pulled into my spot and on the opposite side of me and a few spaces over a kid pulled into his spot... When he went to leave he whipped out of his spot and SLAMMED into my bumper. His dodge avenger had 6000 worth of damage from the door right down the croner, tailight, trunk lid...not even a dent in my bumper...:D got to love solid vechicles:D

Solid does not really describe a Chevy Avalanche...
They are all plastic, not like the older ones.

The trailer hitch, now that aparently is still made solid.
Looks like it might be tweaked downward a little bit so I will probably change it out just to be safe if we ever tow anything with it.

 ALL HAIL THE FULL SIZE CHEVY FOR CRUSHING THE FRONT OF THAT PUNY toyota

    LOL
I do feel bad for that lady though.

I almost rear ended my buddy's Jeep last night because my lights are bright and no adjusted so they point upwards. So he decided to be an ass and slam on his brakes infront of me. With all the rain we have been having the roads are slick so my brakes locked up. Oh well, what can you do

I was just in Temecula a few weeks ago. My parents have a 40-acre ranch up in Anza.

Take it to a shop and have it checked. Looks to me like you have at least 3K in damage. Shoulda told that female to " Get the cell phone out of your ear and drive"

Got a call from the insurance adjuster, he should be stopping by today or tomorrow to check it out. Then into the shop it goes for an estimate on repairs.

Also looks like I do not have to pay anything out of pocket

Well the estimate comes out to $1,314.70.
    New Bumper
    New Bumper Cover
    New Hitch
    all associated hardware

The good news is that there is no apparent frame damage. I have decided to let the shop do the work just to have the warrenty, and in case there is frame damage that was missed it would still be covered at a later date.
