    Im thiking about throwing an overdirve on my rig. any opinions on this? What brands are good. Prices? anything?

    79 Jimmy, 5" lift 35 M/T with a 383 puttin out 400hp and 450lb/ft. Locked front and back.

    It depends, do you already have an overdrive tranny?? You could go w/ a 4L80E or 700R4. You could also go with an aftermarket OD such as those available from Gear Vendor. Be forewarned, you may need to take out a mortgage to buy one though...lol

    With the kind of HP and torque you are running i dont know if I would even mess with a 700r4 or its electric counterpart. You could get the replacement for the th400 that has overdrive (its either the 4l80e or the 4l60E. I forget wich replaced the 700 and which replaced the th400.) But for that kind of money you could get a NV4500 standard transmission. Its a 5 speed with a granny gear and an overdrive. Its the best of both worlds IMO.

    700r4 and the 460Le are the same tranny, which are both a th350 with a od as far as strength is concerned. 480LE is a th400 with od.
