What is the best way to do this? I used to pump grease into them and I heard the seals making noise and grease came out all the seals. Those failed soon afterward. What is the proper way to grease them?

Squeeze slowly. Don't force the grease in at 100 mph. Wipe all the excess grease off. I'd make sure the nipple is free of dirt before I put the grease in so you don't send dirt in with it.
