    OK......

Here's a teaser shot of what's been parked in my front garage for the last few weeks:

It's a freakishly unmolested, rust-free 1969 K5! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif BadDog (Russ) was nice enough to go take a look at it for me, since it was for sale down in AZ. A few other CK5ers also went over the help with the lifting to get it on the trailer when the time came to send it up here. CK5ers are the greatest folks around! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I bought the trailer that it's sitting on too. I figure since Trogdor (aka "The Green Machine") did such a good job towing to Moab this year, I might as well own a trailer so that I can go to the longer distance events if I want to.

Anyway...If I have time, I will try to post up more pics in my gallery area in the "new" album I just created.

    Christmas came early for Greg72!

I see the hood in the back of it... any other bonus parts you got with the tub?
Are you gonna buy those new reproduction blazer doors? mmmm.... install some power locks and windows while yer at it... My list of things to do is still a mile long. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You definatly got the right idea of starting from scratch on everything and making it exactly how YOU want it and clean as hell! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

    Other Goodies:
    -----------------------

Complete front clip (two uncut fenders, hood, radiator support, Hood springs, Latch Assy, etc)
    A cherry, and original 1969 inner/outer grille! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Original Glove Box door that still has a readable RPO tag on it.
A couple boxes of brackets, and other hardware
    Some interior chrome trim
A groovy white "pleather" Grant GT steering wheel /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Two sunvisors that have seen better days

(I have more pictures in the Gallery now, if you want to see some of these parts!)

    Stuff that's missing:
    ------------------------
Tailgate - He had a dented one that wasn't original anyway
Doors - He had a buyer for them already, they were cut for speakers and didn't seem worth the price. So "yes" I'll be buying a set of those new GMCPauls ones! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Single Wall Top - No biggie, I have a spare already [:showoff:]
Interior - More problematic, but I've already located an original set of seats (F & R) and I already have TWO center consoles hidden away.

What's amazing is that the paint is "original"....even though it's faded you can see that the truck has not been wrecked and re-painted a bunch of times. The front footwell areas are incredibly solid (something I've never seen in person) and the entire rocker area looks amazing. There is a small amount of rust on the outer rocker on the passenger side, but nothing like what I've seen and had to deal with on my '72.

I was originally going to strip this tub down to the last nut and bolt and have it acid dipped to remove any rust, but now that I've looked it over, I think I will just media-blast it instead. It's not worth the extra risks of the acid dip, and it really doesn't need THAT much cleaning.

    Re: Greg\'s new K5?

You just keep getting yourself into more and more work don't you? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

    So what are the plans?
Is this one going to be a perfect restoration or incorporate all of the modifications from the 72?
Are you going to end up with 2 K5's or just one really cool one with a bunch of spare parts?

If you build out this one and ditch the 72 will you change your screen name to "Greg69"

    Dan,

The idea is to build the '69 as the "Next Generation" 1st Gen! The '72 has been (and continues to be) a great test mule for a lot of the ideas I've had. The '69 will just be a new canvas to apply all of my favorite ideas and a few new ones into a package that represents what I consider to be the ultimate K5:

    Real Paint
    No Fender Hacking
    Big Tires
    Small Lift
    Massive underbelly clearance
    Fully adjustable suspension links F/R
Fully adjustable coilovers (for ride height)
    Big Engine
    Big Stereo
    Big Crawl Ratio
    Complete "Stock" interior w/sound deadening
Restored singlewall top for cold weather
Stock 1st Gen items like bumpers, grille, etc. to preserve the "look"

Well see.....the frame, driveline, and 1-Ton axles are already in the "man space" so it's really NOT that incomplete. It will just be a matter of the final suspension design, and then I should be able to start moving pretty quickly.

Once it's completed, I'm not sure of the fate of the '72..... do you think anyone on CK5 might be interested in it? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

    Marv,

    I know....they don't seem to go together.

    I didn't say "stock" fenders....just not "hacked"!!!

I've never seen an example of the truck I want to build so it's only in the minds-eye at this point. You'll just have to wait and see like everyone else. As for the body weight, I don't know....I haven't ever lifted it myself. It was delivered as you see it.

LS1? Nah.... just an old school Rat with a Q-Jet. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
