I was working on a guy's 87 V20 today, tuning it up for him. He asked me to figure out the gear ratio and I found that it had an options ID like a newer truck would have.

It had GU6 for an axle code, which a search revealed that is for a 3.42 gear.

I know that 3/4 tons with 3.42s are rare, but there is such a thing. If this is truely a 3.42 geared truck it'd be the first 3/4 ton I've ever come across personally with that high of gears.

This guy is the original owner. Before he met me, he spent $1500 to have the 14 bolt SF repaired when he ate up the R&P set!

Man, it must suck to be him. 3/4 ton rig with a 700R4 and 3.42s and it still gets horrible mileage. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I knew that they made 3/4 ton trucks with 3.42s, just never seen one 'til today.

This guy is the only person to ever own this truck. Runs like brand new and it has 280,000 miles on the original bottom end, 2nd 700R4, and stock axles with 3.42s and the Gov-loc rear.

The way I look at it, it's a waste of a good body. The truck was PERFECT except the one dent he put in it the other day, yet its got a well worn 350 TBI, a 700, a 208, and 10/14SF with 3.42s. Immaculate truck though.
