i e-mailed them at auto-meter, but evedently they don't like me, cuz i got no answer.
so, are they all internally illuminated, like the normal gagues in our dashes? or do i have to duct tape a flashlight to my dash?
    cuz, i want a 3 3/4" 8000rpm or a 5" monster but if they don't light up i'll get a different brand.
oh one morequestion, can the 5" 6,000rpm diesel tach. be used on our hei ignitions?

All of my Autometer gages came with an internal light. As for the diesel tach....I'm pretty sure I don't know, I would guess that it wouldn't work on a gas engine....anyone else???

I guess tach are supposed to be more accurate right in the middle, but don't know of to many diesel that spend there time in the 3 grand range reguraly. I've seen 5,000 rpm diesel tachs. The big rig ones are usually 4 or 3 grand. Yes yes, I know pointless information, but i gotta share my useless knowledge.

thanks, i know a diesel won't spin that high but in my catalog it says that there's a diesel tach that reads up to 6,000. if a diesel get's that high (wich i really doubt) it's a serious mistake. blowing up a $22,000 caterpillar 3406 in line six cyl. can really mess up your day.

There are truck pulling and racing diesels that go higher than that.

True, no stock ones do, but no stock 454 reaches 8000 either.

Speed all depends on the money you have to spend.

Actually....... you could get the tach to work on your gasser, but your not going to hook it up to the HEI. Generally, aftermarket diesel tachs get their signal from the alternator, or from a magnetic trigger mounted somewhere....(like a crank sensor)
