Will the harmonic balancer from a 1981 350,4 bolt main, work on a 1990 350, 2 bolt main? I'm getting ready to build my motor and will need to get a new one if they aren't interchangeable. Just trying to figure out all the parts I need to order so I can get them all at the same time.
    Thanks /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

I do not belive so... when i had my new tbi 350 put in, the shop had to order a new harmonic balncer simply becuase my old one wouldnt work with it... it was a 87 305 fyi so it might be diff if both are 350's

I know that at some point in the 70s or 80s they changed the balancer and they wont interchange, but I'm not sure about the later models.

should work with no problem. Timing marks may be different though.

    A 305 balancer will not work on a 350....ever.

Check diameter for one thing. There are at least two different chev balancer diameters (8" is the big one, all I've ever seen on a truck FWIW) and the timing tab is different based on the size (and year too)
