I know I have read an article in one of my 4x4 mags that shows how to convert an A/C unit into an on board air compressor. Has anyone done this or have any info on how to do it?

I did this in my Jeep. I plan on keeping the A/C in the Blazer for a while. If you have a factory York, your golden. If its a newer rotary Sanden or similar, there are a few things to watch for:

    1. You will need to put in a oil 'loop' into the system since they dont have a oil reservior (they use the freon to cool). I put a separator on the output and plumbed it back to the input.

    2. You might have a tough time mating up to the factory fittings. People make manifolds for the York, but I went to an AC shop and thumbed through the catalog till I found a matching fitting with a barb. Not too bad.

nope, never been done, and It's impossible to do anyway. The only car it works on is '74 Gremlins. [IMG]
