could still be a wire crossed that just yesterday worked itself into a position to ground out or touch another wire if 2 wires are rubbing together they will eventialy rub enough to wear through the outer coating and make a conection with each other just something to look for

the Haynes manuels have a decent wiring diagram in them

dude, I don't wanna scare you, but your truck won't cut off when you turn the key: You ever read the book/seen the movie "Christine" by Stephen King? Might wanna watch stepping in front of it for a while /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

It doesn't take much current at all to keep the ignition system working. Your profile doesn't say what year your truck is, but I'm guessing that it doesn't have fuel injection. If so, start looking for other electrical problems. That can help you find why the engine won't shut off. Vehicles use very strange wiring, to minimize the number of wires that they have to use when building them.

Back when my '75 had the stock engine, I backed into the driveway one day and shut off the key, but the engine kept running. In my case, if I took the trans out of reverse OR let my foot off of the brake pedal, the engine would finally shut off. I had noticed on the way home that one of my turn signal indicators in the dash was glowing, ever so slightly, all the time. Turned out that a bad ground inside the left rear tail light assembly was causing the problem! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif WIthout that ground, when both the brake light switch AND the backup light switch were on, they setup a path that would provide power to the coil, thus keeping the engine running even with the ignition switch off. I never would have thought to look at the back of the truck to fix a problem like that if I hadn't noticed the turn signal indicator... /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

does it just sputter when you turn the key off or keep actually running, if it just sputters couldnt that be something with the Timing?

dieseling could be cause by the timing been off or the carb maybe needing adjustment
