I pretty much decided to go with the Edelbrock TES headers after Hedman played around too long and I said to stuff it... however I still really would like to go with the shortie style... even though I can't find them for my year (this is, I can afford)! I keep finding them all over the place for 88 and up Blazer... my question is why in the heck can't I use these? They are smog legal for an 88... so what changed so much from my year to the 88 that I couldn't use them? I have pulled stuff off of 88's Blazers at junk yards and used them on my engine just fine. So if I bought these headers...is there any reason they wouldn't fit or work? Does this make sense? Thanks in advance...

They 87 newer style has a single AIR port at the front exhaust port each side so to go with these you also need the AIR injection tube to go with them which go around the back side of the engine .also check on thorley headers they are the best for fit and finish ,also some shorty style headers on 4xs make it so the frame has to be notched to allow space for them to fit.

    88k5 silverado w4"lift soon to have d44 and corp14ff with 4.56s

Thats correct. They have the AIR injector ports on them. My guess, you can cap these off with pipe plugs. They also make these headers for the 88 and up WITHOUT AIR injectors!!! Do some more checking with Edelbrock.

Take a look at Doug thorley 364 series headers. You can get them with 2 1/2" or 3" Y pipe and they fit well. Edelbrock has a set to fit yours, at least when I spoke with them, they had a set to fit my 87 and said I could get them with or without air injection but could not verify fit with manual trans. & hyd. clutch.

Ok...but I live in CA. So my truck for that year came equiped with AIR injection on it. What I am meaning is....will the flanges fit up the same? I don't see why not?

Thorley headers are insanely over priced for me! I have to replace my whole exhaust...pipes, manifolds, muffler and cat...I have $800 to do it. If I go with the Edelbrock TES I can get the rest done and afford it. But I found these pace setter headers... same ones jcwhitney sells. This guy wants $30 for them. He said I can make them fit and they'll work. I'm trying to find that out is all... argh so complicated! LOL

Edelbrock has shorties listed in their catalog (part # 6527) but when I called to ask then where I can buy them from they don't have them made yet. Said it'll be fall when I can get them. I was like why put the pic in there and have people like me all excited then? I'm getting part # 6863 (unless this other header will work).... hope the Ed's work? If not then I might drive around illegal with open exhaust and an expired registration! [IMG]

ChevyCaGal, one little tidbit, you are from Sac, right? Even though CA a person must have a smog test done, there are some counties in the state that are not required to test and I believe you should be close to one or two of them. For everyone in Kalifornia, People's Republik of; there are ways around smog testing even if your vehicle is newer than the cutoff date. Had a coversation with someone in SD a few months ago about his race truck. It's registered as a '92 I believe, running over 500 horse in a big block ford and it's street legal.
