I couldn't decide between ranting some diatribe about enviro- whacko's and freon or telling you all I did a home made shackle flip today. Sooooooo, I made a shackle flip today!!!!!! Actually it was pretty simple. I jacked up the rear end and went at it. I was helping a friend build a porch, he had a sawz alls and grinders and all the right tools so I borrowed them and went to town. I burned up the grinder wheels and didn't have any transportation so I used the sawzall with a wood cutting blade. Worked like a charm. I think the hardest part was trimming the hole for the shackle itself. All in all it took about three hours. If you all want some more info send me an e mail. I'll get sime pics later too. I think I copied the wrong address

My blazer sits a little higher in the back than I wanted it to. How much difference would I feel if I removed the overload spring out of the pack? I think that 1/2 to 3/4 " difference would be better.

It'd probably make for a smoother ride, and a little better flex. Give it a try!

For those of you using webshots, how do you make your page available for viewing? Do I need to LOG OFF? I can view it from the link but noone seems to be able to.

you got an extra "http" in there. When you do a hot link don't type in the "http://" part. The software does it for you...

Looks good, but I'd be concerned the shackle would hit at the back of the 'hole'...it looks close right now. Are you gonna reinforce it some?

Hey good eye! I still see sparks fly when I close my eyes!Yes I'm going to have a friend weld some trusses and corners in a few spots to beef it back up a little. I haven't really flexed it enuff to see if will hit in the back(I'm assuming it will) it looks really tight doesnt it? I was thinking, looking at that picture, if I were to face the shackle the other way if it would clear up some room towards the back as well make the spring lay a little flatter?

I was thinking the same thing on yer shackle when I was looking at it...I'd try and reverse the shackle and see what the fitment looks like. Take it out somewhere and get the truck crossed up and either have a freind watch or have a friend get it crossed up and you watch.

I'm planning on doing a similar flip...I was thinking of a brace piece from the outside above the bolt at an angle up to the frame part of the hanger.

Pretty much how I'm going to build it back up. Maybe box it in on top of that. I was talking to a guy a few weeks back who had cut alot more than I did and he has been running his for a few years like that with no problems. But with a friend that will weld it just to share a 12 pack of beer, how can I not beef it up?

I switched the position of those shackles and have palenty of room now. I'm just too damned hot and tired to go for a ride! It's 106 outside right now and 70ish inside.(swamp coolers rule) The beer is even colder!

I spent the better part of today removing those overload springs. It took me less time to do the flip! Lost a little on the height so I'm back where I was before I did it. It looks better and I really don't notice any difference in the ride. I'll take some more pikters, I splashed some black paint around to make it look good (that'll last a week or two)
