Well I don't know if people remember a heartburn thread I did a while back but I've been getting it more often and now I've actually had it for 4 days STRAIGHT. Its different this time, its in my chest and just weird feeling. Hurts to swallow like a sore throat but in my chest. Doctor put me on Nexium and wants some X-Rays and an EKG test. Acid Reflux doesn't seem likely for someone my age but who knows.

What do you mean not likely for your age? I don't think it is age specific. My dad, my brother, and I all have it. My dad is 51, I'm 24, and my bro is 15. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Age has nothing to do with it. Your doc should know that. I had a hietal that started in my early 20's. I finally had to have it fixed 'cause it hurt so bad. I had it fixed when I was 30. If I had known how much better it was going to make things. I would have done it years ago! The surgery sucked, but the lack of pain NO MATTER WHAT I EAT is worth it IMO! I am now 32 and have been "heart burn free" for 2 years. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Nexium is good stuff! unless you have other problems i think you'll feel much better. I Can drink or eat anything now and never have heartbearn, i use to have it constantly and i know the heartburn your talking about, rolaids does nothing for it.

I've had heartburn since I was a kid. Usually rolaids help eventually, but when I'm at home I take about a teaspoon-tablespoon and mix it with water, then down it. Takes about 2-3 minutes, but the relief is tremendous.

Age doesn't matter for this, I remember having it as far back as 14 or 15.

It sounds like you reached the point I did about this time last year when I ended up in ER after a bowl of tomato soup. Try a tiny bit of tomato juice and see if it causes agony. If so, it's likely you now have open sores in your esophagus. That's what I had, my Dr. made me cut the line and get the thing with the camera down my throat the next day or so.

He put me on 2 prevacid a day for a year, and half way through I decided to start experimenting. I stopped the pills one or two days and got painful heartburn right away. Then I reduced it to 1 pill to avoid busting the bank on refills (I swear, Dr seea insurance card he sees blank check!). I'm starting to get heartburn again when I don't eat (nasty habit I'm developing this work season...).

I seriously recommend getting it taken care of asap, and maybe try to prod your Dr. a little more, maybe go to a gastro specialist.
