I threw every curse word I knew at it and it still won't come off. I'm trying to put in a new heater core and the box inside won't come loose. The bottom seems free, but the top seems to still be hooked on somewhere. I took every bolt and nut off in the vicinity in the engine compartment and no luck. Is there something under the ac housing that's holding it?? I've read Grims article and didn't find it in there, either.

For whatever it is worth, I just took mine off to throw the whole HVAC system in the trash. There were bolts on both the inside and the outside of the firewall that held the inner box on (in mine, 1978). Some threaded from the firewall side and some threaded from the interior compartment side. I hope that helps.

Yea, there is one nut that you will have to remove INSIDE, which is located on the right side of the box. You will need a deepwell socket and at elast a 6" extension to get it from my recolection.... You have to remove the heater / AC box under the hood too- (at least I did) before mine came loose.

Take your time! I repainted the pass side fender well too along with the battery tray. Now the other side looks old and dull!!! So I will have to find some retarded reason to tear that side limb from limb too!!!!

Finally got it out!! The stud at the very top was holding it for some reason. I theaded the nut back on the end and started in with the BFH. There was also a piece of heater hose that had been cut off right at the firewall and had grown roots to one of the core pipes.
