I am in the process of replacing the steering gear on my '83 Jimmy, and while I was at it I was going to go ahead and replace all of my ball joints. Then I heard of the heim joints and I want to use them, but I don't know if they will fit on my original steering components or if I will have to get a new steering link and new tie rod. If anyone knows, could you please let me know.

I think you want to change them rod ends with heim joints, not the ball joints... right?

Myself, I would stick with the rod ends, unless you are getting to some extreme angles or such. Look at the cost of both also.
