my blazer...which I need to install a sm465 and 205 in is currently stuck on a car lift!

the ram went out and is leaking bad, wont go up or down !

the ram has a plug near the top, about 7/16 large with a allen head hole in it, its leaking from the middle,

    this really sucks!

I dont know much about rams,

looks like I have to pull the ram out, do I neet to lift the truck some how and lower this? or can I do it with the truck on there? has large chains, similar to a fork lift design.

any imput or any one with advice? I dont want to get hurt trying to lower a truck off a broke lift in an unsafe mannor:crazy:

    DONT OPEN THAT PORT.

that will let all the fluid out and drop 1 side. you need to find a way to lift up that side and undo the safty latch and pring the rig down in a safe way. it might not be easy but take your time as a uncontroled drop could also bend your frame from switching load positions on it setting there.

you could always post them to jimmy@columbuscustomexhaust.com ... seriously does the lift have two rams or just one??? if one, how high is it off the ground??? what i mean is the bottom of the arms for the lift...

the truck is still up there!

    the lift has two rams,

also..wouldn't filling the resivoir just allow it to leak more fluid?

the arms are about 3 or 4 feet off the ground.

can you find 4 big jackstands to support the truck then bleed the cylinders off?

if you ran it low on fluid and unless it is just straight pouring out of the hole(in which I would say tap it and stick a brass plug in it.) refilling it will allow you to raise it up and unlock the rack to lower it. that will work if it is a small leak if it is a big leak tap it and plug it.

It's not really a seal on hydraulic cylinders but rather it's a packing. Usually consisting of a larger rubber seal along with multiple o-rings. Yes they can fail, usually it's caused by a foreign object which can also score the chrome on the shaft.
