I just got my first 4x4, a shiny purple 84 Jimmy but it needs some parts..oh like a MOTOR! I've had people telling me that I will be having problems with it and that I should get a conversion kit for a 350. Someone else told me that a v6 from a chevy truck would fit. Can Someone PLEASE HELP ME!! Thanks!

It depends on what was originally there, if it was originally a v8 then a v8 should swap in fairly easy. You'd probably need to post more info. Is it manual or auto trans, do you know what was previously there?

Is it an S10 Jimmy for K5 Jimmy? K5's always came with V8's. S10's came with 4 & 6 Bangers. Mostly 6 though. If its and S10, then yeah, you need a conversion to put a 305 or 350 in it. http://www.advanceadapters.com has what you need. If its a K5, then a 350 should bolt right in. And you deinately don't want to put a 6banger in a K5. But like AGM said, we need more info to really help you out.

Don't know you, but 6 CLYDS(250 cid) is more common in a K5 from the factory than a NP205.

Really??? Oh, my bad, I didn't know K5's came with 6bangers. But, I know NP205's aint common in K5's, but I definately got one hooked up to my TH350. The original Trans is a SM465, that's why.

Man, you're right. I just looked in the spec page and saw that V6's were standard in K5's from 69'-86'. The truck probably had no kind of pick up with that little engine in there. I remember my old S10 with a V6, and I put a 3" body lift and 31" tires and that thing was struggling.

    The 250cui in the K5´s was an inline 6, not a V6[IMG]. Oh well...[IMG]

I had a '79 GMC 4WD pickup with the straight 250, it was a DOG, even with a 4 speed manual. It must be worse in a K5 !
