I was at a stop light and my truck ('89 Jimmy w/ 355 ci motor, TH700r4 trans, NP241 t-case, w/ 6" lift and 35x14 ground hawgs and 4.10 gears in 3/4 ton D44 front and 14blt rear) popped out of gear and started rolling backwards... needless to say, I stepped on the gas and realized it was in neutral, I quickly proceeded to put the truck into gear without letting the skinny pedal up... well, there went the u-joint that I told the driveshaft builder to upgrade to a 1-ton (slip yoke and u-joint). Well, after jumping out, locking the hubs and pulling the slip yoke out to prevent loosing it (oh, the ATF decided to become my shampoo for the nite). I pulled forward out of the intersection with the driveshaft trying to destroy my flowmasters and then stopped to take that of. 10 minutes later, with my fingers frozen solid, I told the friendly officer, who pulled up behind me to watch me work, goodbye and I declined the medical help for my fingers (he could tell their condition by the way I flinched in pain while trying to open my door and the way I was hopping to keep warm).

I drove away on the front axle with t-case fluid streaming from the tailshaft ((I only had 2 miles to go so I wasn't too worried). My problem that I noticed today was pretty major. I filled the case with two quarts of fluid and put a medium sized Wendy's cup over the tailshaft to minimumize the leakage (it worked!!!). But when I was driving around the block testing it, the trans popped out of gear and i rolled to a stop (I thought I blew a front u-joint). I put the truck in N from OD and back into OD... still no movement. It worked in R so I tried D and it went forward... I could tell it was shifting at a higher RPM though. I took it out to a 45 mph road and counted shifts... there were 3 in D and at 40 mph I shifted it to OD and the fouth gear came in but when I stopped and tried to start from OD it just revved (not too high 'cause I've learned that lesson).

    My question, finally-
What the hell happened to my GM new trans with only 7000 mi??? (I did put a B&M shift kit in... only mod to it).

possibly sumthin with the shifter linkage loose...
if it's doin it only in OD from a stop somethin may be loose or stretched too much and popping the linkage out of place...
??? This is just my thoughts...
    Donno if it's what's wrong...
