I am currently looking for a new job, the one I have pays well but is not getting me anywhere.

It looks like I may have a lead on an promising position with the Ohio EPA but I would take a hit on my salary, and it would be a drive 2-3 times what I am doing now.

Help me produce a list of reasons to keep the K5. (For the wifes benefit)
I will probably need to get a little scat car for the longer commute.

I'm assuming your Blazer is paid off.. if so.. here's reason's to keep it..
1. If anything breaks, every junkyard will have your part for cheap
2. Roomy and rugged and reliable.
3. It's going to be even more of a collector's item in the future.
4. They don't make truck's like this anymore..
5. The 87-91 are the most sought after because of being fuel injected.. you can squeeze great milage out of them if you're light on the gas, keep it tuned up and keep tires inflated to a little over recommended psi.
6. MOST IMPORTANT : you'll regret selling it... Period..
I regreted selling my 89 Jimmy a long time ago.. and guess what.. I went back to another 89 just recently. And i've never been happier.

Hope this helps.. Good luck.

I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. www.rocko.rockcrawler.com

Just get a little car also

You will hate yourself for getting rid of it. Just get a little car to drive. It will pay for itself in gas. Let the wife drive the blazer to the grocery store.

You live in the snow belt. That truck just might save her from freezing to death in the next blizzard when you loose power and have to get to somewhere to ride it out. No Honda is going to get you through 3 feet of snow. Not to mention you could if you wanted to run over a Honda [IMG]

In addition to everything else already mentioned - SAFETY!! I've seen fatalities in small econo-cars from 15mph side impacts, as well as severely debilitating injuries from front and rear impacts at low speeds (Thought pattern of SRS advocates: "the driver is now a complete vegetable, and is on life support at 22 grand a day but atleast he's not physically dead") - the Blazer puts alot of steel between you and the idiot in a Subaru trying to pass on a double yellow, not to mention an actual frame holding everything together.

Ask her if she wants you out in the garage drinking beer with your wheeling buds and wrenching on the K5...or if she'd rather have you out at the bars picking up strange women. Err..Umm...let me re-phrase that...LOL!!!

You are coming to a k5 site to justify keeping the blazer. Obviously it is not 'justifying'...you are meerly getting support [IMG].

If you came here, you obviously want to keep it, so keep it.

If you see my truck on a trailer, call 911 cause it's STOLEN!!!

Trade it for one with a diesel. They're usually cheaper, and will get better mileage. The performance will suck till you can afford to turbocharge it, but it'll get you by.

Just talk to your frineds...every time I think about selling my K5, I do that, and everyone always talks me out of it, because they all think its bad a$$, and I would look stupid in anything else...also know I would hate myself if I did make a mistake and decide to sell it......right now I kinda want a 88-98 shortbed single cab PU, exactly what my ex gf's dad has...told him about this, and he even said he'd trade me for a few days and trade back when I realized the mistake I made...

If you sell it, you will be miserable. If you are miserable, that will rub off on your wife, therefore making her miserable. So, unless she agrees to be content with misery, I suggest you keep it.

Yeah, I know its got small tires, but it gets 20 mpg. (And that's while I was pulling the boat)

Just try the "I'm the man, and I said I'm keeping it" method - then run like hell!!

Would you really want to be seen in anything else? Just try and imagine yourself in an Aztec and the notion of selling will pass.

Why do people keep calling it a Bronco!!!!! [IMG]

My wife said to me last night, "since you have a company truck, why dont you sell the blazer so we can pay off a credit card." I said "why dont you call a divorce lawyer in the morning!"

Support is more the idea

I have told her in the past that I was not planning to sell the Blazer EVER. It is an inexpensive (LMAO) easy to work on Truck...Right? LOL.

Actually had the conversation last night and the only time she brought up selling it was when I mentioned getting a motorcycle to save on gas. Other than that she is agreeing with me that I can keep it and eventually get a small 5 speed 4 banger that gets insane gas milage to drive to work.

What I will be up against if I get this job is around 150 miles a day round trip. That compared to 40 miles a day now and I car pool to boot, so I only drive every other week. So my milage will go up by a factor of 750% and my pay will go down by 18.5%.

Re: Support is more the idea

You can get a early 90's s-10 with a 2.8 and a 5 spd and it will run forever and won't fall apart like a little car. I sold mine for 2K not too long ago, so they aren't expensive. You also get the TBI with those years. I had that truck for years and I did normal maintence, replaced a starter, and replaced a clutch and that was ALL I did to it. Also had A/C! It got awsome gas milage too! And if, God forbid, you were in a wreck, it wouldn't crumple like a car. They are well built little trucks!
