Well, I need a new tranny. I will be running 4.88's in the running gear with 38" tires and 9" of over all lift (dont know why that matters but oh well). I will also be putting in a NP205. I know the TH350 has a numerically lower 1st gear than the 700r4, so not only will be loosing the low end from swithcing the tcase from a 208 to a 205 but I would loose the low end on 1st gear in the tranny too. Now here in Iowa we dont do much rock crawling just trails and mud with some rocks thrown in but its no Rubicon believe me! Does anyone know if it would be a BIG HUGE difference in low range if I went with a Th350 or 700R4? Any input is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

Actually doesn't the 700 have a lower first? One thing to think of is your motor will probally not be able to pull those tires in OD.It will hunt for gears.I like MJ's response get a clutch!Brady

The 700R has something like a 3.76 first gear - much better than the 2.52 in the 350. I wouldnt think twice about that one... 4.88 and 38" tires with a 700R sounds like a GREAT combo to me.

    ..looking for a 700r with a 241 passenger side drop :-)

The TH700 has a 3.06:1 first, 1.62:1 second gear where the TH350 has a 2.52:1 first and a 1.52:1 second, the TH700 wins for lower gears, and with the OD the 4.88's will be livable on the highway. Strength wise I'd say the two are about the same, I've had more TH350's die on me than TH700's. I'd definatly go with the TH700.

The 700r4 has a numerically higher 1st gear so it is a lower gear. With 36's and 3.42 now it doesnt seem to be able to keep ahold of OD unless I am going down hill. It is always shifting out of OD. I guess Ill just have to put in a Richmond 6 speed /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif
