help me spend my father in-law\'s money!

ok, so he bought my a lift kit and he wants to get it installed for me so he knows its done "right". Anyway besides the lift kit, hes asking what else i want done while its in the shop. Cant do crossover or hydro steer because the truck doesnt have the parts on hand. So what comes to mind.... I asked about an air compressor under the hood, the shop guy is going to ask his buddy. What brand should he look for, is it a bolt on part? What else can you guys think of that I can get done while it's in the shop?
What I have is:
14ff/d60 open
stock 350
700 R4

On a side note*
Which is better? ARB or Detroit Electrac for the D60?
What is the best posi-traction or limited slip I can put in the 14? /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

yessir. first things first ask for 2 full sets(one for me of course) of full size spares. i would say ARB would be a better choice. from what i hear the electrac's are weak in design. and why get one ARB when you could get 2 for twice as much? other stuff that comes to mind
on-board welder
winch
bored and stroked 454
chromemoly shafts

what lift did you get? i thought you were already lifted?

Get a locker of some sort for the 14ff. I locker will by far add more to the capablilities of your truck than anything else you do to it. Just adding one locker will be about the same difference as 2wd to 4wd.

Hmm, not your money, I'd say go ARB, ditch the 14, swap in a 70 and go ARB out back too! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Go with an ARB and get a quick air air compressor or a trailhead, and run a littel tank. If you get the high end ones I believe they put out almost enough air to run an impact.

Hey Brandon
OH MY GOD :-)
What A nice guy he didnt give any kind of a budget limit ??
hey does your wife have a sister ill give ya a percentage :-) lol
anyways seriously
about your statment
Cant do crossover or hydro steer because the truck doesnt have the parts on hand.
the d60 is a lot easyer then the d44 to do crossover on as all ya need is
a 2 wheel box and a cross bar and a the pitman arm and the knuckle arm so
sure ya do just go to oru and get the parts take em to the shop and have themn install it :-)
piece of cake and I agreee withthe outher guy get a locker for the rear and mabe a air locker for the front to start
and that will go nicly withwaht you said a air compressor for air up and down on the trails as i see ya like pismo :-)
+ a new set of tires and rims to go withe lift
imean the sky is the limit
right
anyways congrads and happy holidays

Lock Right the 60
Detriot the rear
35 spline outers for the 60
Fullsize spare
Klune V underdrive /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif I'd Klune my Jimmy before I'd ditch my 241 for a doubler. It just makes a lot more sense to do less work for more of a LR than a doubler /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

And why not go to lower gears at the same time? /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Disc Brakes for your 14FF could be a nice add on.

I rebuilt the axles that are underneath his truck. Here are the current specs on the truck:
D-60 front with 5.13's
14-B rear with 5.13's and disc's.
He is also running 37" SSR's with I believe Hummer Beadlocks.

O yeah Branndon your steering will probably feel better when you get the truck lower.

If you do an ARB (I did) you can add a fitting to use for onboard air. Its good for airing up tires after a run, but it would not run air tools. Just an added benefit to the ARB!

Re: help me spend my father in-law\'s money!

alright, i got the spending limit....... $1500 /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I thought maybe a couple hundred woulda been bitchen... But anyway here's what i am thinking:

ARB or Elecrtac.... for front $1000 w/compressor?
rear: i'm still concerned about a detriot because i am moving to live in the snow (new hampshire) in mid 2006, and i dont want to have a detriot and drive on the black ice.... it might throw me into other cars. So i'm thinking a good limited slip rear.. $300-500?

other ideas
onboard air
crossover or hydrosteer (no rock crawling. Just trails and obsticles)

open for suggestions... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

BTW: what does a D70 go for?

Re: help me spend my father in-law\'s money!

I'd do the crossover and get it out of the way. For the rear end, assuming you do not have a gov lock, I'd throw in a detroit. Most people don't have any problems with them (adverse handling) and if for some reason you do, you can pull it out since it does not replace the carrier. I believe that most (if not all) of the L/S units for the FF are full carrier replacement units which make installation more difficult, and I think that while an improvement, you would be disappointed in a L/S if you do any moderate off-roading. I wouldn't spend the money on the front locker yet. Other mods such as a winch, fullsize spare, or bumpers/ body armor would make more sense and probably be put to more use if you don't have 'em already. OBA would be nice but may run up a labor bill since there are lots of little things involved. If you haven't already I'd throw on some motor upgrades like ceramic coated headers and dual exhaust, and maybe a couple of TBI injection upgrades.

Id run the ARB. The eatons cost too much and they havent ben out very long so they might have some problems still. Also I think that the ARB would be more reliable.

what about a full time locker and leave a hub unlocked... is that 3WD? that might be less expensive and less complicated and i can spend the $ elsewhere
