After getting about three hours of sleep in the past three days, i'm looking for any help I can get. I never have had problems with falling asleep until recently. It seems that no matter how mentally or physically tired I am, I can't get myself to relax enough to fall asleep. Sometimes a song will pop in my head and I can't turn it off. Sometimes I start thinking about the things that cause me stress. It just seems that I cannot get myself to that point where you fully relax and start to fall asleep. I have looked at my diet and lifestyle and can't find anything wrong there that would cause me problems. The only reasonable explanation I can think of is that for the past six months I have not kept a regular sleep cycle. I was thinking about Ambien or Lunesta... anyone have any experience with these? I know that somebody has to have some good solid advice that they can share with me.

I tried the melatonin and it didn't seem to do any thing for me. Hey fumes, does the ambien make you sleepy or does it just help you stay asleep? Thanks guys.

I have found that doing an "un-official self exam" usually works for putting me to sleep:D .

Other than that I have no real input, sorry:D

It's nice to have a pill of some sort to cure our ills. I don't like the dependency that may come with that though. I don't necessaruly mean an addiction. In your case, your sleeplessness seems to be a matter of relaxation. That means getting your brain to shut down and allowing you to go to sleep. The above mentioned ways could all help in that manner. You might also want to look and some mental relaxation techniques. Just google it and there is some good stuff out there. Good luck!

interesting you are so against using a natural herb to cure the problem, but will willingly drop a few pills composed of chemicals and god knows what.

I'm NOT going to get into an argument over this, I made my first post mostly as a joke.

That's not it at all man. Citizen Rider knows all about my past and my use of pot. His "no comment" was sort of an inside joke I guess. I didn't want to mention pot because I know what an ugly turn anything pot related can take around here. In my past, MJ has always helped me sleep. It seems to be the best way for me to relax my mind but I have decided to make some changes in my lifestyle. Thanks for all the advice from everyone. I'm going to look into the previously mentioned herbs and do some research on relaxation techniques.

my appoligies then. I had no idea there was a history. Now and again use vs breaking an addiction is a whole different ballgame.

I guess that I probably should have mentioned that I had recently quit smoking. I know this has something to do with my insomnia and I know it would be a quick, easy way for me to get some sleep. I simply don't want to revert to my old ways and have all the negatives associated with pot back in my life. I think i'm gonna try a shot or two of Crown before bed tonight and see how that goes. It's hard to say how it will effect me though because in the past, alcohol either knocks me right out or it makes me sleepless. I'm not much of a drinker and I nearly always get a hangover when I drink. Sorry if my posts are somewhat rambling, whiney and incoherent..... i'm friggin' tired man!:D I'm gonna call my doc tomorrow and see if I can get some ambien. Hopefully, it will help.

when you cant sleep, try to force yourself to stay awake.
