I have a 1983 Blazer and and now i am having trouble with 4x4 well i was hoocking up some electrical stuff inside and i fried a lot of the electrical stuff and probably some fuses well any ways the 4wheel drive light dosnt come on but i think thats b/c of my poor eleectrician skills but anyways i can engage into 4wheel drive i dunno if the front wheels are turning or not but when it comes to puting it back into 2wd all that happens is the gears grind and i have to turn it off and force it back into 2wd i have heard that the older blazers had troubles with a chain in the transfer case screwing up i was just wantng to know if its hard to fix and if its an expensive thing to do

The easiest way to tell if the front end is engaged is to take a full-lock turn either direction, and the front end will hop and buck some. Are you trying to shift into 2wd with the trans engaged, or in neutral? If it's not going in in neutral, you probably are due for a little love, attention and money for the transfer case.
