I am building a trail only truck and am using a stock TBI 454. As I understand, the fuel injection needs a speed senser, which in the speedometer. I want to get rid of the speedo. Does the fuel injection need the speed senser, and if so, is there way to ditch the speedo and use some other kind of speed senser? Thanks.

A better "subject" line and moving this to "The Garage" would probably get you a lot more visibility! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry if I sounded like a smart ass. I didn't mean to. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif But I think I will take your advise and ask over there too.

I don't know that much about VSSB's but I know several things to look into:
1: eliminate it. I've run 3 injection systems that didn't use the vssb and 2 of them were factory systems. I don't know if it's matter of burning the chip right or what but it's possible.
2: Bust open the speedo and find what makes it tick and leave that part. You add about a pound to the truck and don't have to worry about it. You could also just keep the whole damn speedo and just put it somewhere hidden under the dash.
3: see what kind of signal you need and put a tone ring on the t-case output shaft like Steve Fox and others here have done. Then you don't need the signal off of the speedo.

    What is a 'tone ring'?

Notched ring that creates a signal for the computer to translate into output shaft RPM.
