I have been contacted by a company in Henderson, NV and have done one tele-conference interview which went rather well and now they would like to schedule another one with me. While it is a slim chance that any company will re-locate someone across country in this economy, they seem to be pursuing me further.

I would like to stay in the south and close to home, location isn't that important to me and my wife. If I have to move to continue to eat, I will, and besides we really like it out west.

Long story short, I drove through Henderson on my way from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon this past summer and it seems like a nice place, but I would like to know what you think about the area. Home prices, schools, community, entertainment (outside of gambling), etc. Thanks for the input and maybe I'll see you out there.

    Thanks again,
    Lance

My Folks live there off of Sunset. I make it down there several times a year. I considered moving there myself exept that my wife has a huge family up here that she is attached to. I think its real nice.

I live in NE Nv but my Mom lived in Vegas for a long time so I got down there a lot.
Henderson is a nice place. But Vegas is growing like crazy.
I rember when Henderson was wayyy out of town.

Last time I checked. Prices down there houses in Henderson
for a basic 1200 sq ft 3 br hut started around 150,000 and went up from there.
Dont know about schools but most schools here in NV are pretty good. Most schools in Vegas area are new becauce of the explosive growth.
There is lots to do around Vegas besides gaming. I'v lived in Nevada all my life and rarely go into a casino for entertainment.. (Except to eat. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Vegas has some of the best dineing in the world and its CHEAP.

The climate is warm all year

Lake Mead is near by its a great place for watersports and fishing. Lake Powell is also fairly close. both these lakes are huge.

Theres hiking and Skiing at MT Charlston. The Sierra Nevada mountains aen't that far away. Utah has some really cool places to explore too ( MOAB, /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif MT Zion, Bryce canyon ect) and its not far from Vegas.

Northern Nevada has some of the best hunting and fishing in the nation. And best of all NO People. You can really get away from it all up here.

Four Wheeling is awesome no need to go to a 4x4 park here. The whole state is your playground to explore........ well except the nucular testing range and a few military reserves. But they are well marked with nice signs saying....<font color="red">"NO TRESSPASSING Use of deadly force authorised beyond this point"</font>..... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

There's tons of urban stuff to do in Vegas, Shows, Parks, golf, sports, lots of Malls, ect, ect,

Last but not least Las Vegas Motor Speedway /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Have I convinced you to move yet? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for the input. When I was out there last summer, I really liked what I saw. Scenery was beautiful and not what I expected. Made me wish I would have brought my climbing gear and mountain bike. Vegas was fun, but would not be a good fit for me or my wife.

Glad to see you brought up hunting and especially fishing. I realize the lake is close by, but was unsure how the fishing is in general out there. Didn't imagine there would be too many ponds or streams out there to wet a line in. Is there a good opportunities to turkey hunt in the north part of the state, because that and bird hunting are the only types I really like to do?

The home prices thing concerns me a little, but it is good to know when it comes time for negotiating a salary (if it gets to that point). Same size home here in the better suburbs of this quasi-big city would run around $30,000.00 less. However, those prices you mentioned are right on in some of the exclusive areas of this town.

The more I think about this, the more excited about the prospect of moving west I become. On the other side of that equation, the more my wife thinks about leaving here, the less excited she becomes. Oh well, we will see. Have another tele-interview this afternoon and maybe the opportunity to at least come visit will be addressed.

    Thanks again,
    Lance
