Well it's that time of year again and I was wondering what the rest of you do for charitable contributions. One specific organization? Toys for Tots, Salvation Army etc?

My wife and I have decided this year to do the usual giving tree (gifts for local kids) and then make two (relatively) large donations to a charity each of us choose.

I don't know what she is choosing yet, but mine will be http://lbeh.com/ "Let's Bring 'Em Home". They provide plane tickets to soldiers who would otherwise be unable to go home and see their families.

Do any of you have a "preferred charity"?

I donate yearly to the Canmore hospital. My company matches my donation.

We do the giving trees. We also have a party where everyone buys something that they would have liked as a kid. $20-$25 toys. We open and try to guess who bought what. My wife and her cousin came up with this. Its funny, and when its over we bring all of the toys to Toys for Tots.

There's the Toys for Tot's 4x4 drive in Denver. I always wanted to do that.

But otherwise I just normally give all my loose change to the people out front of the grocery store after I buy stuff. I think they're the Salvation army.

I actually just took my gf to a charity benefit in Austin last night that raises money for a camp around Cherokee, Tx. that is a camp for inner city kids that would otherwise never see the countryside and wildlife and junk. Been there a few times to do projects and maintenance to help out cleaning the place up, very satisfying place to go, also I dont really have loads of money since I am a student, but I always try to donate a few bucks here and there to different things like church carwashes around town and stuff.

    Remington

.....and no I dont make them wash my truck.

My family has adopted a needy family at the local Children and family services....strictly annonymous, but we know they need help. Clothes, food toys for the kids, and household items for the mom.

We are a monthly donator to Phoenix Childrens Hospital . And during the Christmas season , we usually just give a little to a local church to sponsor a families meal , and a toy for each kid . We prefer it that way versus giving to a charity with overhead . The wife takes care of it for both of us .
