Holley, spread bore, q-jet lookin thing?

    bought this 75 parts truck and it has this wierd holley on it that kinda looks like a q-jet but not really. anyone know anything about these? do they perform well? is it worth keeping?

    Spread bore holley. That is a rare bird, I think I've got one sitting in my giant box-o-crap in the garage. If I remember right, parts are hard to find for 'em, but I'm not sure..

    I think I'd toss it, or get it bronzed. Eather way, stick with old faithfull, the Q-jet.

  2. ya know i used to have a 73 that had a holley spread bore but it looked like a regular 4150. only i think it had the fuel inlet in the front like a q-jet. strange.

    if it is i bet it works better then any other holley for offroad antics, and would take it over a similar quadra bog. if you dont want it maybe i could take it off your hands

    small cfm 450 or so.

    I had one of those for a while. Mine was a vacuum secondary with a single metering block and fixed jets. I think it was 600cfm and it wasn't to bad. But in all honesty, my Q-Jet, while more tempermental, delivered more power in the mid range for whatever reason... but the Holley spreadbore never fluttered at half throttle (except when the vacuum secondaries had the wrong spring in em).

    On that same note, I found a new Holley 600cfm vacuum secondary on a F**d truck today in the junk yard... $14.50. You got to love the Pick-A-Part!

  9. cool. thanks for all the responses. i'll keep it around for the hell of it. maybe i'll bolt it to my work truck and see how it does. i would like to know some exact specs on it if anyone knows a link. the one 77chev sent is cool. has a good exploded veiw. from what i could dig up it is a 450 cfm. anyone know if it does as well as a q-jet on angle and inclines?

    what you are refering to is not the carb in question.
    yours is/was a 4175
    ford trucks and 83ish-85 5.0 mustangs use a small cfm holley 4180 with electric choke and annular discharge nozzle. they are real crisp throttle response. i never had another holley work as well as they did for response.
