    Ugh.

That game just hurt. Miami played great. The hardest thing to swallow was the turnovers, but I think even if they didn't happen, Miami would have won. They have a great team. I don't think anyone could have beat them.

Luckily, Nebraska is not losing that many players this year. I just hope we can find another quarterback.

    There's always next year. :)

Like I said a couple of weeks ago BCS SUCKS.

Oregon might not have beaten Miami, but they sure would have put up a better fight. Now, remember I am a Sooner fan for life, but gotta say the Huskers have to get into the new century and quit trying to run that lame a$$ option when you're down by 34 points. They have to diversify like OU did or they will NOT beat the good, fast, pro-style passing attacks. What am I saying [IMG], I hope they keep running every play from now on...........boring.

    I STRONGLY DISAGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is nothing like RAW, kick 'em the face football and that's what Nebraska is good at.(atleast until last night).
you're not going to win them all and just how can you say that Oregan could have played a better game? who would have imagined that Colorado would woop Nebraska like they did? hind site is 20/20. If anyone should have been there it should have been BYU. they played 13 games and lost only 1, while eveyone else only played 12. so Byu put their pride on the line more than any other team.
no, i'm not a BYU fan...but i'm not a fan of the BCS either.....but....the coaches did agree on the system before it was installed. me. i say a playoff is in order. it's the only fair way.
i'm a Cornhusker fan and will still be. every dog has its day, even if it's a Pelican.(d@mn hurricanes...never have liked them).
hey, atleast it wasn't whinney a$$ bobby bowden and his little seminoles in the big game.(he couldn't afford it this year.)

oh I don't think I'd go slamming option style football to much after all Nebraska has won quite a few titles, recently, with that style. I'd even dare say that I'll bet it won't be too far away you'll see em win it again with that style.

I think I team could win with either style. I think that has been proven time and again in college football.

But I'll slam em...! The Huskers seriously sucked last night running some of those option plays like Blazzin said. I kept expecting to see the flea flicker or something equally as cheesy. When that one guy got creamed in the 4th quarter it was basically the theme of the game... They (Huskers) have a system that works well when playing most teams but seriously... it's not gonna work well with all teams and they gotta take that into account and come up with some different things for those teams like Miami. It'd be like us wheeling on rocks like we were in mud... it's not gonna work and you have to take a different appraoch. If they had done that they might have have won or at least made the game way way closer.....

I don't think the style of play has anything to do with it, I just don't think they were as good of a team as Miami... Miami creamed everybody all season regardless of what kind of team they were so why was Nebraska any suprise?

college is not the NFL... there are successful teams that mostly run the football, and the do it very well and win that way.

Nebraska did make it to the championship game didn't they? if the run was so bad how did they make it that far?

The Huskers have success with their run game, but I agree they need to work on their passing game. The problem is they build their offense around the quarterbacks strengths. Guess what... Crouch is a running quarterback. He has the most rushing touchdowns and yards of any college quarterback... ever...

As for the problem this year... the line was smaller than normal and younger than normal. Crouch didn't have the mass to open up the holes. Nebraska isn't losing that many players this year. So expect a return appearance.

The Rose Bowl wasn't the blowout that everyone is spouting either. The Huskers beat themselves, again. They had two major turnovers that destroyed them in the 2nd. I agree that Miami would have won regardless, but the Huskers outplayed Miami in the second half. If anything, that shows more pride than most teams.

As for the Duck debate. They wouldn't have done any better. Miami blew out everyone this year. They had a great team this year, and will again next year.

I didn't say the whole season sucked... just last night is all... and there was many times when they should have passed when they ran because they had recievers standing there wide open but did a running play and then they got stuffed... that's all I was saying. If they had maybe gone the other way and tried to pass more maybe they'd done better... of course hindsight is 20/20 and I am sure at the time the running plays looked better then they turned out to be!

Cripes...they won the title in '94 against Miami, '95 against Florida, and '97 against Tennessee with the SAME system. All your pass first teams you are so high on here. The game has not passed the Huskers by...how many teams would like to win 11 every year with the opportunity to win the National Championship. It's not the offense, it's not the defense, it's the players. Damn did you see how fast Miami was??? I don't think that any team could have hung with them during that game. Would have like to see if the Huskers could hang onto the ball and see how close it would be. They gave Miami 14 points. That makes it 23-14.....maybe another touchdown or so?? [IMG]

Oh and the reason those receivers were wide open is BECAUSE it was a run. That's what makes the option so dangerous...hopefully you don't know what's coming like when Miami lines up in the Shotgun. Of course when you've got 250 lbs of pissed off linebacker on your quarterback, its hard to make those throws. [IMG]

In my opinion the option is a fairly simple offense to defend. Depending on the get go the QB has 4 reads, give the dive to the full back, keep, or pitch, or toss the tight end, right? If the full back can't get his block there is a free linebacker, if the tight end doesn't get a block of the line the defensive end can box the corner and cut of the keep and kill the QB when he pitches the ball, and the corner were able the contain the tail backs. Only problem for the defense is to have the right personal in place and Miami got that done. 6-9 270 lb defensive linemen that run 4.4 40's are the right stuff in my book. Look at the year Nebraska played Arizona in the Holiday Bowl, I think Crouch was a freshman. They got beat cos of Arizonas speed on defense.

Wow, did I ignite a riot or what [IMG]...........my point is this - I love the Sooners, and they won 6 national championships running the option exclusively. They saw the value in changing to a balanced system and won number 7. The problem with that style is when you fall behind, as the Huskers did big, you are screwed. Plain and simple. The option still has its place in college but you still have to be able to throw the ball when you need to, and they couldn't with their 'Heisman quarterback'.

By the way, good question as to how they made it to the championship game, Jeff. That was the whole basis for my 'BCS SUCKS' post a month ago...........[IMG].

Well I wasn't even referring to the other years and games, just the other night... I know they stomped them before. But the other night... just seemed they were so out of sorts with what they were doing. Like they got so caught up it was a championship and it made them get fumbly fingers diease! Everyone has bad games. Least it wasn't a game like the 49ers vs. Bangels played in the Superbowl... now that was a bad game!
