I weighed myself a month ago and I was a pound shy of 200. I weighed myself again today and I am around 180. (pounds) how can this be? To tell you the truth I haven't worked out for a long time (basement was torn apart) and I wasn't eating too healthy. The only thing I did that might have shaved a FEW pounds was working outside, and packing boxes.
So I am down to the conclusion that the scale is broken. I can't just lose 20 pounds just like that. How can I figure it out?

    Stavey,

You have to do it in your skivies. Stand in the same place on the scale everytime. Try it 3 times in a row to make sure your doing it right. Keep your feets flat and don't lean.

Get a body mass caliper if you want a true understanding of your fat content.

A scale will not tell you squat about body composition - just total weight including muscle mass.

What's a body mass caliper? How can it know how much fat and muscle I have?

    its phychic! :D

but to get an accurate weight you will want to weigh yourself lets say first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, in the skivies, try that two or three days in a row, and go with the median weight

What that site is trying to tell you is that BMI charts based on weight and height are inaccurate. You need to measure your fatness in several places with a tool called a caliper. Something like your auto caliper but not quite. You take the average of those 3 skinfold measurements and apply that to a chart.

No need for sorry Steve. I'm not being critical, just trying to help answer your question in detail.

Just put something on the scale that you already know the weight of like a box that has been shipped and has the weight or a plate weight if you have any. If the scale is accurate, you lost 20 pounds without doing anything and you should write a diet book and get rich.
