Does anyone have any secrets or tricks on how to keep the distributor dry on my mud truck?
I dont have any problems with the carburetor at all because of the trick setup I have. I just need an some ideas on the distrubutor cap. Gotta keep the heat to the plugs /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Thats a good question. I run mud and water most of the time and have never had a problem with my HEI. I know other people have put silicon on the base of the cap and this seals it. You have to vent the cap though when you do this or vapers will sooner or later build up and cause it to misfire.

I'm not sure if it will fit an HEI distributor but on my MSD distributor I use the rubber boot/cover from a Ford V8 - works great, it completely covers the distributor.

How does that bolt/screw on? Sounds like an excellent idea. Do I just get that off of any v8 ford?

It basically looks like a rubber diaper that is installed upside down over the distributor cap. It is held in place by hooks and holes that are molded into it. Mine came off of a mid 80's Crown Vic with a V8, if I'm not mistaken they were used a lot on both the Crown Vic's and mustangs in the 80's.

Great idea. Diaper here I come. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I will look in the junkyard this weekend for that. T/Y
I used to cut out the bottom of a 2 liter and place it underneath the cap(like a diaper) and tape it with duct tape. Worked great and never got wet but was a lot of work and was a pain to get off when I wanted to check the cap. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif
