I know about the "Start Menu > Programs > Startup" stuff, but there are more junk processes running in my system tray that do not have a 'Settings Option' in them to let me disable the startup function. I'm running half the software from the Western Hemisphere in my damn System Tray and don't need ANY of it there!!! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Don't make me come over there!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah, I deleted a bunch of software I don't use, cleaned up a bunch of temp files and ran scandisk last nigh as well as defrag. My last 'cleanup' is the system tray that's running all kinds of stuff I don't use...

Here's an example: I have a CD-writer (of course) and I only use it maybe a couple of times per month. But the system tray has a process running that's constantly watching for me to insert a blank CD. I would like to kill that process because it's eating up resources, and I don't mind having to run the program through the start menu on the few occasions that I do need it.

There are a whole bunch of programs like that where I don't use them very often, but don't want to uninstall, yet they run a systray process all the damn time and eat up what little power my 5-year-old 366 Megahertz 'puter has!!! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Starting a new job in January and I may reward myself by getting a new computer with all the bells and whistles, and a 20" TV/Monitor!!! But groceries first... /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Hey! Just for kicks I typed in msconfig in RUN and it says it is missing one of it's components and I can't get there. I'm running Win2000... Is that normal?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I don't want to do that... I have no backup... Anything else I could do? Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that Win2000 uses an administrator sign in at start up?
